Biography

 

Michelle Fleming is an artist living in the Southern Georgian Bay area. She graduated with honours from the Ontario College of Art and Design and received a BFA from Guelph University. Her studies have included drawing, painting, printmaking, experimental art and art history.

Michelle has taught students at Upper Canada College and at the Metropolitan Preparatory Academy in Toronto, Appleby College in Oakville and the Bluewater District Board of Education. For eight years she was the Head of the Art Department at Pretty River Academy in Collingwood, Ontario.

In 2006, Michelle founded The Bay School of Art, offering a variety of art classes for all ages in both Collingwood and Clarksburg Ontario. The school has also provided art classes and workshops in high schools, elementary schools and Montessori schools in both Simcoe County and the Town of the Blue Mountains. Michelle is the co-founder of the Thornbury Art & Drama Camps as well as the Fine Art & Music Summer Camps for Children. Michelle recently retired from her position as Director of The Bay School of Art and full time teaching so she could devote more time to painting.

As a teacher of art Michelle has explored many different styles of expression in order to support her students in finding their own unique voice in painting. This has been a huge source of inspiration for her own artistic growth as she continues to explore and expand her visual horizons.
